Scripture/Text: Micah 1:1-7; People name their children after the Old Testament prophets. Yet churches hardly preach their messages. This might be due to our aversion to hearing about or communicating God's judgement. This is a mistake precisely because prophets like Micah help us crystallize our concepts of God's love. For love certainly wouldn't overlook evil, nor would it leave us without hope. This Sunday we will learn why the judgement of God simply teaches us the reality about the just stakes of our actions; and by implication is a merciful invitation to stave off disaster. Micah's overall message is an invitation to see God is just, but loves mercy, both of which we desperately need.
