The Thessalonian Christians are confused yet again about Jesus’ return. This time, it seems they are wondering if the famed “day of the Lord” has already occured and they somehow missed this important event. Besides correcting their obvious Old Testament illiteracy teaching about the cataclysmic nature of the day of the Lord, Paul informs this church about “the man of lawlessness” (1 Thessalonians 2:3) that will be revealed by doing heinous deeds in the temple of the Lord and the presence of devious, devilish, deceptions. Paul’s teaching is part of the Biblical content that informs our understanding that Jesus’ return will be anticipated by this end of days character, many will label “the antichrist”, who is the final of many antichrists (1 John 2:18-19). This church and ours needs understand that the “day of the Lord’ will be unmistakable. We will all know when Jesus returns to judge the earth. This church also needs, like all believers, to know that evil will continue to hold sway until Jesus removes its presence from the earth. Beloved, gladly know that when Christ comes to judge, it will be unmistakable, and we will be irrevocably our Lord’s.
